Dolphins Youth Club recently organised a camping trip, offering young people the opportunity to step outside their comfort zones and embrace new challenges through outdoor adventure, an experience that, for many, was their first time camping.
Participants took an active role in setting up and personalising their tents, creating comfortable, homely spaces while developing practical skills, independence, and teamwork. They also contributed to daily routines, including washing dishes after meals, supporting the development of important life skills such as responsibility, cooperation, and respect for shared environments.
A range of team-building activities strengthened communication, trust, and collaboration, creating a positive and supportive atmosphere where friendships could develop, all of which reflect the core values of youth work by encouraging young people to take ownership of their environment and support one another.
Food and shared mealtimes were a highlight of the trip. Young people enjoyed a BBQ, a homemade lunch, and a full home-cooked breakfast spread, bringing everyone together and reinforcing a strong sense of community.
Despite a brief spell of rain and thunder, the group remained positive and resilient. Young people embraced the experience, supporting one another and adapting to the changing conditions. Rather than detracting from the trip, it enhanced the sense of adventure.
Evenings were filled with energy and enjoyment, with campfire marshmallow roasting and karaoke sessions bringing laughter and confidence-building opportunities. These moments provided a relaxed space for reflection, enjoyment, and bonding, helping to deepen relationships.
Overall, the camping trip played a key role in building resilience, confidence, and social connections. Through outdoor learning, shared responsibilities, and peer support, participants gained valuable skills and a strong sense of achievement, contributing to lasting memories.
Dolphins Youth Club remains committed to providing enriching opportunities that support personal development, social connection, and positive experiences for young people.
