The Youth Service connects with young people through personal and social learning opportunities that enable them to achieve their full potential. Our mission is rooted in the belief that every young person has the ability to grow, learn, and succeed when given the right support and opportunities. We uphold core values of voluntary participation, ensuring that young people choose to engage with us; equal opportunities, creating safe and welcoming spaces for young people from all backgrounds; and giving voice to young people, encouraging them to be heard and influence change. Additionally, we are committed to working ethically with integrity, challenging discriminatory behaviour in a non-judgemental way, and collaborating with the community to raise the aspirations of young people.
The primary goal of the Youth Service is to reach out and serve young people between the ages of 7 and 25 (*with the exception of the Mingle group, which includes up to 30 years old) by providing informal educational opportunities that empower them to reach their full potential. Our key initiatives and programmes include Youth Club Programmes such as Plater, Dolphins, Laguna, and the Youth Centre; School Programmes at Westside, Bayside, and the Alternative Learning Curriculum; and the Not In Education, Employment or Training (NEET) initiative, including The Zone (Step Up & Thrive) Project.
The Zone is a new pilot project by the Ministry of Employment, Equality, Culture, Tourism, and Youth to support NEET individuals. Based at the Youth Centre on Line Wall Road, it offers a drop-in service where young people can engage with mentors, explore educational resources, and set achievable goals. This initiative provides a supportive space for those seeking pathways to education, training, or employment, with Minister Santos championing its vision of empowering young individuals toward a brighter future.
We also host the Youth Symposium, manage the online careers platform Careers.gi, organise the Careers Fair, and run the Prison Project working with young offenders up to the age of 25.
Through these initiatives, the Youth Service aims to deliver safe and effective provision to young people, fostering an environment where they can thrive. By offering a diverse range of programmes and maintaining our commitment to our core values, we continue to support and empower young people, helping them to achieve their full potential and become active, engaged members of the community.
