International Men’s Day 2025 – Supporting Boys and Rethinking Masculinities.
The Ministry of Equality commissioned Beyond Equality to deliver training to the youth service workers, care workers and teachers in November 2025. The title of the training was “Supporting Boys and Rethinking Masculinities”. From the feedback received, it can be said that the training was very well received, with strong levels of engagement and satisfaction across both sectors. Around 70–80% of participants rated the training as highly relevant and useful, and the majority indicated they would recommend it to others.
Participants consistently highlighted the practical value of the training in supporting boys’ development and promoting positive, inclusive understandings of masculinity. Many reported increased confidence in applying strategies within their professional settings, alongside a deeper awareness of the social influences, hidden biases, and cultural messages shaping boys’ experiences.
Facilitators were widely praised for creating a safe, engaging, and reflective learning environment. The interactive and conversational approach encouraged open dialogue, self-reflection, and meaningful discussion of sensitive topics. Cross-sector and cross-school collaboration was a key strength, with participants valuing opportunities to share experiences, challenges, and effective practice.
Suggestions for improvement were limited but constructive, including requests for longer or follow-up sessions, tailoring content to specific organisational contexts, and broader participation through whole-school or whole-organisation training. Overall, the feedback confirms that the training was highly effective, impactful, and well suited to supporting professionals working with boys and young people
